Chapter 6
Ravenous
Monday arrived like a held breath finally released.
He woke at five. Not because the alarm went off. Because his body knew. Some animal part of him, beneath the self-hatred and the overthinking and the carefully constructed kindness, understood that today was the day the silence ended. He lay in the dark and felt the anticipation build in his chest like a tide coming in. Slow. Inevitable. Total.
By seven, he'd showered, made coffee, and was sitting at the kitchen table with his phone face-up on the wood, staring at the blank screen. The group chat had been dead all weekend. No messages from the Americans. No messages from her. The app icon sat there, purple and black, a closed door he wasn't allowed to knock on.
At seven twelve, his phone buzzed.
Oise_88 (PM): He's gone.
Two words. He felt his whole body respond. Shoulders dropping. Jaw unclenching. A physical release, as if he'd been holding a weight over his head for forty-eight hours and someone had finally taken it from him.
NorthForeland (PM): How are you?
Oise_88 (PM): Starving.
NorthForeland (PM): For what?
Oise_88 (PM): You. Everything. Anything you'll give me.
He set his coffee down. His hand was slightly shaking.
NorthForeland (PM): I've been thinking about you for two days.
Oise_88 (PM): Tell me.
NorthForeland (PM): Not here. Call me.
She called within thirty seconds. The line connected and he heard her exhale. Not a word. Just a breath. Long and uncontrolled, the sound of someone who had been holding it for an entire weekend.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi."
"I can talk properly. He's gone. The house is mine."
"How does it feel?"
"Like taking off a corset. I can finally breathe."
"You were holding your breath all weekend."
"Every second. Every meal. Every conversation. Every time he touched me I was holding my breath and thinking about you."
He closed his eyes. The jealousy from Saturday night flickered, a brief green flame in his chest, but she'd been honest and he'd accepted it and now she was here, breathing, and the flame died for lack of oxygen.
"I thought about you too," he said. "More than I should have. More than is healthy."
"There's no healthy with us. You know that."
"I know."
"I didn't like it. Being away from you. It felt like. Do you know when you're underwater and you can see the surface but you can't reach it? That."
"I know that feeling."
"I kept reaching for my phone and stopping. I kept wanting to message you. I kept wanting to hear your voice. I sat in the garden yesterday and closed my eyes and tried to remember the exact sound of your breathing when you came and I couldn't get it right and it made me want to scream."
He swallowed. His throat was tight.
"I need you," she said. "Today. Not later. Now."
"What do you need?"
"Everything. I need you to take me apart. I need to stop thinking. I need to stop being her. I need you to make me disappear."
"I can do that."
"I know you can. That's why I'm asking."
"Pair your toy for me."
"Already done."
He opened the app. Her device was connected. Online. Waiting. The feedback log showed zero intensity. She was ready. She'd been ready. Probably since last night, lying in the dark, waiting for Monday the way a prisoner waits for a pardon.
"I'm not going to be gentle today," he said.
"I don't want you to be gentle."
"I know. I'm telling you because I need you to hear it. I've been holding things back. The kindness. The patience. The slow, careful version of me that holds you at twenty percent and lets you breathe. That man is still here. But there's another version. A version that's been locked in a room for two days, listening to the wind, thinking about you performing for a man who doesn't know what you sound like when you're real. That version is hungry."
She was quiet. He could hear her breathing quicken.
"What does that version want?" she whispered.
"He wants to wreck you."
She made a sound. A small, involuntary noise that came from the back of her throat. Not a moan. Something before a moan. The sound of a body responding to a permission it's been waiting for.
"Tell me," she said.
"I want you in a collar. Not a metaphor. A real one. Leather. Tight enough that you feel it when you swallow. Tight enough that it reminds you who you belong to every time you breathe."
"Putain."
"I want it buckled at the back. My hands on the buckle. My fingers on your neck. I want to feel your pulse through the leather."
"Yes."
"I want nipple clamps on you. Not the gentle ones. The ones with teeth. The ones that make you gasp when they go on and ache when they stay. I want to put them on you myself. I want to watch your face when the pain hits and then I want to watch it dissolve into something else."
She was breathing hard now. He could hear it through the phone. The rhythm of it. The speed.
"Turn the toy on," she said.
He pushed the slider. Not to ten. Not to fifteen. To thirty. A hard, immediate pulse that he knew would hit her like a wall.
She gasped. A sharp, broken sound. The kind of gasp that meant her body had been primed for days and the sudden intensity was almost too much and not enough at the same time.
"Fuck."
"I'm not done."
"Keep going."
"I want to edge you. Over and over. I want to bring you to the edge and stop. And then bring you back. And then stop. Until you can't think. Until you can't perform. Until the only thing left is the raw, honest, desperate version of you that doesn't know how to be anything but real."
"How many times?"
"As many as I want."
"And then?"
"And then I'm going to push you over and keep going. After. When you're sensitive. When your body can't take any more. I'm going to keep the toy on and hold you there. Through the sensitivity. Through the pain. Through the sounds you make when it's too much and you want me to stop but you also don't want me to stop."
She moaned. Properly. Full. The sound he'd been replaying in his head all weekend, except this one was real, happening now, live, in his ear.
"You want that," he said. It wasn't a question.
"Yes. Yes. Please."
"Please what?"
"Please take me apart. Please make me stop thinking. Please."
He pushed to thirty-five. She cried out. A sharp, high sound that cracked at the top.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"Bedroom. On the bed. Face down."
"Good. I want you face down. I want your face in the pillow. I want your hands above your head. I want you to imagine the collar around your neck and the clamps on your nipples and my hand on your back, holding you down."
"I'm imagining it."
"Good. Now I want you to stay there. Don't move. Don't touch yourself. Just the toy. Just my voice."
"Okay."
"I'm going to keep you at thirty-five for a while. I want you to get close. Not to the edge. Close to close. I want you hovering. I want you to feel it building and building and building and never quite arriving."
"You're cruel."
"You have no idea."
He held her there for twelve minutes.
Twelve minutes at thirty-five percent, which was more than he'd ever subjected her to without escalation. She drifted in and out of coherence. The voice notes she sent were fragmented. Broken French. Broken English. Sounds that were neither.
At minute eight, she begged.
"Please. Please. I need. I can't. Please."
"Not yet."
"I'm going to. I'm going to come. I can't stop it."
"You can. And you will. Because I'm telling you to."
A whimper. Long. Desperate. The sound of a body at war with itself.
"Please. I'll do anything."
"Anything?"
"Anything."
"Take a photo. Right now. Your face. In the pillow. Send it to me."
"You said don't move."
"I'm making an exception."
He heard her shift. The rustle of sheets. The phone being grabbed. A photo arrived. Her face, half in the pillow, half visible. Flushed. Eyes closed. Mouth open. Hair everywhere. She looked destroyed. She looked beautiful. She looked like the version of herself that no one else got to see.
He stared at it and felt something shift in his chest. Not arousal. Something deeper. Something that lived beneath the hunger and the wanting. A tenderness so acute it was almost painful.
"You're beautiful," he said.
"Don't. Don't be kind right now. I need you to be the other thing."
"What other thing?"
"The hungry thing. The cruel thing. The thing that takes."
"You want me to take."
"I want you to take everything."
He pushed to forty-five. She screamed. Not loudly. A contained scream, pressed into the pillow, but he heard it. The muffled, desperate sound of a woman crossing a threshold she couldn't come back from.
"Now?" she gasped.
"Now."
He pushed to sixty. She came immediately. The sound was different from before. Not quiet. Not an exhale. A full, raw, unrestrained cry that lasted four seconds and ended in a sob. He could hear her body convulsing through the phone. The sheets twisting. The breath catching and breaking.
He didn't stop.
"Putain. Putain. I can't. It's too. I can't."
"You can."
"It's too much. It hurts. It's."
"Do you want me to stop?"
Silence. A long, shaking breath.
"No."
"Then I won't."
He held the toy at sixty. She was past the first orgasm and into the territory that existed after, where the body was hypersensitive and every pulse was both pleasure and pain and the line between them had dissolved. She was making sounds he'd never heard before. Small, high, animal sounds. Whimpers and gasps and moans that overlapped, no pause between them, a continuous stream of noise that told him she was gone.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"I don't know. I don't. I can't. I'm nowhere. I'm."
"Good. That's where I want you. Nowhere. Just feeling."
"Please. Please. I can't. I need. I need."
"What do you need?"
"You. Your voice. Your hands. I need. I need to hear you. Please. Come with me. Please."
He was already touching himself. Had been since the photo. Since the sight of her face in the pillow, destroyed and real. He'd been holding back, focusing on her, but now she was asking and he couldn't deny her.
"I'm here," he said. "I'm touching myself."
"Let me hear."
He let go. The sound he made was involuntary. A low, deep groan that came from the base of his throat. He heard her respond to it, a sharp gasp that meant the sound had gone through her like electricity.
"Again," she said. "Please. Again."
He stroked. Slower than he wanted. Controlling it. Letting the sound build. A low, rhythmic breathing that matched the pulse of the toy inside her. He could hear her climbing again. The sounds changing. Higher. Tighter.
"I'm going to come again," she gasped.
"I know. I can hear it."
"Wait for me. Please. I want to hear you when I. Please."
"I'll try."
"Don't try. Do it. I need to hear you fall apart when I fall apart."
He stroked faster. His breathing was ragged now. The sound filled the phone. Deep. Raw. Uncontained. She was moaning continuously, a low, wavering sound that rose and fell with the toy's pulse, and he could feel her body tightening through the feedback log, the pressure changing, the rhythm shifting.
"Now," she said. "Now. Now. Now."
He came. The sound he made was a groan that broke into something higher, something raw and broken and unrecognizable as anything other than complete surrender. She followed him. Her cry was sharp and immediate, triggered by his sound, and they came apart together on the phone, two voices in two countries breaking at the same moment.
Silence. Breathing. The phone was hot against his ear.
"Again," she said.
He laughed. Breathless. "Already?"
"Already. I told you. I'm starving."
"Give me a minute."
"Sixty seconds. I'm counting."
He could hear her smiling. The warmth in her voice. The realness. The her that existed after the performance had been stripped away. The version that was hungry and shameless and honest.
"Make that thirty seconds," she said.
"You're going to kill me."
"What a way to go."
By noon, they'd come five times.
The first was the one that broke the weekend's silence. Raw and desperate and too fast. The second was slower, him holding her at the edge for twenty minutes before letting her fall, his voice low and commanding in her ear, describing the collar and the clamps and the way he'd hold her down. The third was her turn. She took the phone and talked him through it, her voice steady and commanding, telling him exactly how to touch himself, how fast, how tight, when to stop, when to start. He obeyed her completely, and when he came, it was with a sound that surprised him. A sound he'd never made before. Something between a moan and a sob.
The fourth was on the app, with the toy, but this time he brought her to the edge and stopped. Three times. Four. Five. She begged and threatened and swore in French and English and by the fifth stop she was crying, actually crying, tears of frustration and need, and he held her there in the cruelty of it and told her she was beautiful when she broke.
When he finally let her come, the sound was devastating. A wail that built from nothing and filled the phone and filled his room and filled the space between them. He came with her, his hand moving fast, his own sound matching hers, and the dual orgasm was so intense that neither of them spoke for three minutes afterward.
The fifth was quiet. Almost gentle. He held the toy at twenty percent and talked to her. Not about sex. About the sea. About the wind. About the way the light moved across his ceiling in the afternoon. She came softly, almost accidentally, a gentle wave that washed over her while he was mid-sentence, describing the color of the sky.
"Sorry," she said.
"Stop apologizing."
"I can't help it. It just happened."
"You came while I was talking about the sky. That's the most flattering thing anyone's ever done."
She laughed. "Your voice does things to me. You know that. It's not fair."
"Neither is your accent."
"My accent?"
"When you say putain. When you lose control and the French takes over. I could listen to you read a phone book in French and I'd still be hard."
"Putain."
"There. That. That exact sound."
"You're easy."
"I'm yours. There's a difference."
Afternoon. They took a break. She made food. He made tea. They kept the call running. The domestic intimacy of it was almost more intoxicating than the sex. Hearing her move through her kitchen, the sounds of her house, the cat meowing. The ordinary life of a woman he was falling in love with, rendered extraordinary by proximity.
"I've been thinking about something," she said.
"What?"
"When you talk. During the sessions. The things you describe. The collar. The clamps. The holding down."
"Yes."
"Do you actually want those things?"
"I want everything with you."
"That's not an answer."
"Yes. I want those things. I want to put my hands on you. I want to feel you react. I want to control your body in person, not through an app. I want to see your face when I push you past where you think you can go."
"I want that too."
"I know you do."
"Is that. Is that what you're into? The dominance thing?"
He thought about it. He didn't want to give her a label. Labels were reductive. But the honesty mattered.
"I'm into you. Whatever shape that takes. Sometimes that means holding you at twenty percent and letting you breathe. Sometimes that means pushing you to sixty and holding you there after you come until you cry. It depends on what you need. I read you. I respond. That's what I do."
"That's not a simple answer."
"I'm not a simple person."
"Neither am I."
"I know. That's why this works."
She was quiet. He could hear her chewing. The cat jumped onto something. A surface it wasn't supposed to be on, based on the tone of her voice when she said "non, chat, descend."
"I want to make you moan," she said.
"You do."
"I mean more. I want to hear you the way you hear me. I want to take you apart."
"You already do."
"Not enough. I want to control it. I want to tell you when and how and I want to hear you lose control. I want to hear the sound you make when you can't hold back anymore."
He swallowed. The shift in her voice. The authority. The quiet command. This was the power he'd named. The thing she hid. And here it was, not hiding anymore. Standing in the open, dressed in confidence, looking him in the eye.
"What do you want me to do?" he asked.
"Touch yourself. Now. Slowly."
"Now?"
"Right now. While I listen."
He was already hard. Had been on and off all morning. The recovery time was something she'd noticed and commented on with a mixture of admiration and satisfaction that fed the part of her she was learning to stop hiding.
He touched himself. Slowly. She could hear the first breath. The catch.
"Slower," she said.
He obeyed.
"I want to hear you build. I don't want you to rush. I want to hear every stage. The breathing. The small sounds. The moment you lose control of your voice."
He stroked. Slowly. The sound he made was a low hum that grew. She could hear it through the phone, the gradual escalation, the way his breathing changed from controlled to ragged.
"Tell me what you're thinking," she said.
"I'm thinking about your face. In the photo. In the pillow. Flushed. Mouth open. I'm thinking about what you look like when you come. I'm thinking about what you sound like. I'm thinking about the way you say my handle like it's a name."
"NorthForeland."
"There. That. Exactly that."
"Keep going."
"I'm thinking about your hands. In my hair. Pulling. I'm thinking about your mouth on my neck. I'm thinking about being inside you and feeling you come around me."
She inhaled sharply. "More."
"I'm thinking about holding you down. Wrists pinned. Looking at your face while I. While you. I'm thinking about the sound you'd make if I was inside you and I didn't let you move."
"Putain. Putain. I'm. The toy. Can you."
"I'm not touching the toy. This is for you. You listen to me. You don't get the toy. You get my voice."
"I need something."
"You have my voice. That's enough."
"It's not."
"It is. You came last time just from my voice and the sky. You can do it again."
"I can't."
"You can."
"I need you inside me."
"I am inside you. I'm in your ear. I'm in your head. I'm in every sound you're making right now. I'm deeper than anything else can reach."
She whimpered. He could hear her moving on the bed. Squirming. Her body seeking something that wasn't there.
"I'm close," he said. "I can't. I'm going to."
"Not yet."
"I can't hold it."
"You held me at the edge for twenty minutes. You can hold yourself for two more minutes."
"Two minutes."
"Two minutes. I'll tell you when."
He groaned. A raw, broken sound. She heard it and responded with a sound of her own, a moan that was partly sympathy and partly satisfaction.
"One more minute."
"I can't."
"You can. You're doing it."
Thirty seconds. Twenty. Ten.
"Now," she said.
He came with a sound that was almost a sob. A broken, shuddering exhale that lasted five seconds and left him gasping. She followed him. Not with the toy. Just with his sound in her ear and the command in her voice and the raw, devastating intimacy of being told when to fall.
Both of them breathing. The phone warm. The afternoon light shifting.
"That was," she said.
"I know."
"You made a sound I've never heard before."
"What sound?"
"Like something breaking. In a good way. Like a wall coming down."
"It was."
"I want to hear it again."
"Give me ten minutes."
"Five."
"Five minutes? You're trying to destroy me."
"Maybe I am."
"I'll let you."
They spent the rest of the day in a cycle of sex and talking and more sex and more talking. He learned things about her. She liked to be told what to do but only by someone who paid attention to what she needed. She liked the idea of restraint, of being held down, of giving up control, but only when the person holding her was someone she trusted completely. She liked the pain but only when it was offered with care, not cruelty.
She learned things about him. He recovered fast because the wanting never fully dissipated. It just banked itself, like coals, and waited for the next breath. He was louder than he expected to be when he stopped controlling himself. The sounds he made were low and raw and unguarded, and she was addicted to them. She wanted to collect them. Catalog them. Play them back in the dark when he wasn't there.
She learned that he could come from her voice alone. The specific frequency of her command. When she told him to fall, he fell. Every time. Without resistance.
He learned that she could come from his words alone. Just the precision of his attention, the way he described what he wanted to do to her, the way he painted images that her body responded to before her mind could filter them.
"You're dangerous," she said, for what might have been the hundredth time.
"You keep saying that."
"Because it keeps being true."
Evening. The light faded. The house was quiet. The cat was asleep on the windowsill. They'd been on the phone for fourteen hours.
"I don't want this to end," she said.
"It doesn't have to. Not yet."
"It will. Tomorrow. Work. Life. The versions."
"I know."
"Can we do this again? Another day like this?"
"Whenever you want."
"Whenever I want. That's a dangerous offer."
"I'm a dangerous man."
"You're a soft man with a hard shell."
"That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me."
"I mean it. The hardness is a performance. Underneath you're just. Kindness. And pain. And wanting."
"That's all I am."
"That's enough."
"Is it?"
"Yes."
He believed her. Not because the self-hatred stopped. It never stopped. But because her voice, when she said it, sounded like the truth. And he'd spent his whole life listening for the truth in other people's voices, and he'd never heard it directed at him before.
Not like this.
Never like this.
